About The Position

The Physical Therapy Assistant assists in administering physical therapy care programs and monitors and communicates patient progress to the Physical Therapist and other medical and allied health personnel. The role also maintains medical records for each patient. The assistant administers direct patient care as directed under a written and signed prescription from a referring physician or other State-authorized practitioner, maintains required documentation, progress notes, and discharge summaries, and responds to established emergency procedures to support patient safety and care. The position participates in quality improvement chart reviews and activities and may attend family meetings or conferences concerning the welfare and management of assigned patients. Other related duties may be required.

Requirements

• Associate's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Current New York State license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant; alternatively, a current limited permit to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant in New York State is required for outpatient settings only.
• Specialized certifications as needed.
• 1–3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintains progress notes and discharge summaries for assigned patients.
• Responds appropriately to established department emergency procedures for patient safety and care when necessary.

• May attend family meetings or conferences pertaining to the welfare and management of assigned patients.
• Performs related duties as required.
• Monitors and communicates patient progress to the Physical Therapist and other medical and allied health personnel.
• Maintains medical records for each patient.
