About The Position

At SageWest Health Care, the Physical Therapist evaluates and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs. The therapist provides patients with education related to injury prevention, ergonomics, restorative therapy, and rehabilitation therapy, and supervises physical therapy assistants and aides.

The role assesses patients across age groups, establishes and carries out individualized plans of care, applies physical therapy techniques and modalities, and evaluates, fits, and adjusts prosthetic and orthotic devices. The therapist communicates with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, and delegates care to support personnel in accordance with licensing laws, state regulations, and practice standards. SageWest Health Care serves Fremont County, Wyoming, through hospitals in Riverton and Lander.

Requirements

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
• Current State Physical Therapy License.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire or transfer.
• Ability to maintain awareness of patient satisfaction and teamwork.
• Attention to detail.
• Adaptability and ability to perform under pressure in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Flexibility to work as needed for appropriate departmental coverage.
• Basic computer knowledge and ability to become proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Proficient time management skills.
• Sufficient English speaking, reading, and writing proficiency to perform essential job functions, especially those affecting patient or employee safety or security.
• Demonstrated knowledge of physical therapy modalities.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and conduct medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs.
• Provide educational information on injury prevention, ergonomics, restorative therapy, and rehabilitation therapy.
• Supervise and delegate care to certified patient therapy assistants, therapy technicians, therapy aides, students, and other support personnel; assess competence and establish communication channels.
• Assess patients as appropriate to their requested and provided therapy, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general patient populations, and perform reassessments as required by policy.
• Administer treatments using physical agent modalities and equipment, including moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.
• Perform physical therapy interventions using standard techniques and skills appropriate to the patient's age and condition.
• Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modifications.
• Plan and carry out individualized physical treatment programs to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, and prevent physical dysfunction.
• Develop teaching plans based on identified learning needs, include family as appropriate, and evaluate learning effectiveness.
• Establish an appropriate plan of care with the patient, identify and document goals and anticipated progress, and plan reevaluation.
• Communicate professionally with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers using positive language and constructive problem-solving techniques.
• Treat patients and families with respect and dignity and identify and address their psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious or spiritual needs.
