About The Position

This is a full-time Physical Therapist position in an outpatient setting with Atrium Health Physical Therapy in the Greater Charlotte Float pool. The role involves providing age-appropriate patient care, including evaluations, treatment planning, and implementing evidence-based interventions. The therapist will establish functional goals, monitor outcomes, and educate patients and caregivers. Responsibilities also include professional communication, accurate documentation, compliance with insurance guidelines, maintaining department cleanliness, pursuing professional development, and engaging in operational improvement initiatives. As a float, the therapist must be able to competently practice across assigned departments and locations, adapting to varying clinical or operational environments.

Requirements

  • Physical Therapy License administered in the state(s) of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by applicable state(s) professional standards.
  • Obtained degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform basic office functions.
  • Complies with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Accesses protected health information (PHI) reasonably and shares information on a need-to-know basis.
  • Successfully completes all competency assessments/requirements pertaining to provision of patient care and consistent with site standards.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • Must be able to perform a sliding of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • Repetitive use of hands: Simple grasping - 5-15 lbs. - 20% of the workday.
  • Pushing/pulling - up to 75-100 lbs. - 10% of the day.
  • Fine manipulation of hands during massage and joint mobilization.
  • Must have functional use of senses to allow for effective communication.
  • Must have intelligible speech and adequate language skills to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to demonstrate any appropriate exercise and activities to patients/caregivers.
  • May be exposed to electrical and chemical hazards as well as blood and body fluids.
  • Must have ability to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
  • Position may require travel; therefore, may be exposed to road and weather hazards.
  • Work environment is primarily indoors but occasionally outdoors.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • May make home visits.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) preferred or educational requirements commensurate with the date of graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Age-Appropriate Patient Care: Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, understanding growth and development principles.
  • Patient Evaluation and Care Planning: Interpret medical records and referrals, complete musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations, and establish patient care plans using evidence-based interventions.
  • Goal Setting and Outcome Monitoring: Establish functional goals with patients/caregivers, monitor outcomes, make individualized adjustments, and communicate progress with providers and staff.
  • Patient and Caregiver Education: Provide education on diagnosis, progress, treatment, and home instructions, identifying and addressing learning barriers.
  • Professional Communication: Communicate professionally and timely with patients, caregivers, providers, staff, and external customers, fostering an open atmosphere and informing supervisors of issues.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Complete all required documentation (evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, billing), comply with insurance guidelines, and maintain productivity standards.
  • Environment: Share responsibility for maintaining a clean and orderly department, ensuring equipment is correctly placed and maintained.
  • Professional Development: Pursue professional growth through continuing education, department in-services, and reviewing professional literature.
  • Operational Improvement: Engage in performance improvement initiatives, identify opportunities for quality and operational improvement, and participate in process review.
  • Caseload Management: Manage assigned caseload, inform leadership of coverage needs, and assist with coverage based on department and regional needs.
  • Float Responsibilities: Meet all requirements for the Enterprise Float Program, demonstrating ability to practice competently across assigned departments/locations and adapt to varying environments.
