The Supplemental Physical Therapist assesses patients, develops and initiates treatment plans based on evaluation results, and may measure neuromuscular and skeletal functions. The therapist documents findings and progress, instructs patients and caregivers, provides recommendations, and supports physical therapists and management with program development. The position also serves as a clinical resource and mentor, overseeing the development, guidance, and training of assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians in individual patient care. Physical therapists practicing direct access examine and evaluate current conditions to identify movement and mobility dysfunction. They do not diagnose illnesses or diseases, and consider an existing medical diagnosis from a qualified healthcare practitioner during evaluation. PRN coverage is needed primarily on weekends, approximately two to three weekend days per month. Weekday and holiday coverage may also be needed. Training and orientation take place during the week.
