About The Position

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is responsible for achieving established productivity goals, providing support to residents and their families, and collaborating with the treatment team. This role involves maintaining a high level of skill and competency in physical therapy, completing documentation accurately and in a timely manner, and ensuring resident rights and confidentiality are upheld. The PTA will also contribute to the wellness department by developing and leading therapeutic classes and monitoring individual progress. A strong commitment to person-centered care, professional integrity, and fostering a respectful, inclusive environment is essential.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Physical Therapist Assistant training program (two-year Associate Degree).
  • Completion of a clinical affiliation in an accredited facility.
  • One month of on-the-job exposure.
  • Must have CPR/First Aid certifications or become certified in the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs including at minimum Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to changing organization needs.
  • Must have flexible client/resident scheduling capability to meet needs.
  • Takes appropriate risks (actions) in responding to “customer’s needs”.
  • Responds to changing needs without excessive need for set rules or procedures.
  • Must have excellent organization skills.
  • Must be dependable, resident, and flexible.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of EHR systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve established productivity goals.
  • Provide support and counseling to residents and their significant others regarding their condition and treatment.
  • Suggest referrals to other disciplines and communicate referrals to the treatment team and physical therapist.
  • Complete all treatment calendars and reports in a timely manner.
  • Complete all assigned/required resident care activities before leaving for the day.
  • Maintain and develop a high level of skills and competency in physical therapy.
  • Incorporate new skills and technology into duties.
  • Maintain licensure and certifications.
  • Participate in required departmental and organizational meetings or training.
  • Maintain appropriate clinic records in accordance with department procedures.
  • Follow department quality assurance standards.
  • Conduct and interpret appropriate physical therapy standardized tests.
  • Fit residents with crutches, canes, and/or walkers under the supervision of a physical therapist.
  • Instruct residents in appropriate gait patterns approved by a physical therapist.
  • Develop, collaborate with, and lead therapeutic classes consistent with appropriate jobholder profession and/or experience.
  • Effectively communicate with and motivate residents and employees around meeting their personalized therapy, fitness, and wellness goals.
  • Monitor individual’s progress on goals with appropriate documentation.
  • Accurately complete prior authorization documentation for all residents within the designated time frame.
  • Monitor and follow procedures to maintain facility safety, cleanliness, and appearance.
  • Monitor and clean or arrange for the cleaning of all exercise equipment as needed.
  • Assure that resident/employee rights are maintained at all times.
  • Report any violations or suspected deviations immediately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all department and organization information.
  • Know and follow existing lines of communication, supervision, and authority.
  • Maintain a person-first focus, treating others with respect and integrity.
  • Foster relationships between residents, family, and staff.
  • Nurture the spirit, mind, and body.
  • Promote growth and development for all.
  • Create an environment that meets the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and occupational needs of individuals and the community.
