About The Position

This role involves providing therapy services after a Physical Therapist has completed the evaluation and plan of care. The PTA will assess patient response to treatment, plan and implement next steps within the overall Plan of Care, educate patients, and communicate effectively to help patients achieve their functional goals. The position requires compiling data, conferring with PT staff, and providing direct patient care within the scope of practice, utilizing evidence-based techniques. The role also involves caring for the physical and developmental needs of various age groups, ensuring clear and timely documentation, and maintaining compliance with insurance regulations, billing procedures, resource utilization, and HIPAA rules. Efficiency is key, utilizing downtime effectively. Adherence to hospital and departmental policies, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards is expected. The role requires supporting ancillary staff, including front office personnel, and encouraging professional growth through education and staying current with professional literature. Communication should be kind and respectful, maintaining positive working relationships. The ability to remain calm in emergencies and complete required orthopedic education for hip and knee program certification is also necessary.

Requirements

  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Current Oregon licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant or eligibility and evidence of application for licensure.

Responsibilities

  • After the Physical Therapist completes evaluation and plan of care, PTA provides therapy services per established treatment plan.
  • Assessing patient response to treatment, planning and implementing next steps within the overall Plan of Care, education, and effective communication to maximize a patient’s progress toward achieving functional goals.
  • Compiles data and confers with PT staff and others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying and coordinating treatment.
  • Provides direct patient care within scope of practice. Seeks excellence in practice by utilizing evidence-based or best practice techniques.
  • Has knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services.
  • Appropriate use of Rehabilitation Aides.
  • Clear, concise, and timely documentation.
  • Clear and timely documentation of other conversations with or regarding patients (e.g. telephone encounter to document any discussions with patients, providers, vendors, etc.)
  • Demonstrates integrity through compliance with insurance regulations, accountable billing procedures, judicious use of patient’s resources, and HIPAA rules.
  • Maintains good efficiency through effective use of downtime that occurs through patient no shows and/or cancellations.
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, Quality Improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Supportive to ancillary staff. This includes clear communication with front office staff and compliance with department procedures for scheduling, cancellations, no-shows, and any other duties primarily associated with the front office.
  • Encourages innovation by enhancing professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-services, and workshops.
  • Keeps up to date on professional literature.
  • Communicates in a kind and respectful manner to maintain a positive working relationship with all health professionals, ancillary staff, patients, and caregivers/family.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations.
  • Completes required hours of orthopedic education topics annually as directed by the Ortho Steering team for the Hip and Knee program certification.
  • Meets clinical competencies of hip and knee certification program in order to directly care for a Hip and Knee program patient.
  • Serves as Clinical Instructor for Physical Therapy Assistant students at various stages of their education.
  • Allows observation by and provides mentorship to high school or undergraduate students.
  • Promotes the profession and Sky Lakes organization through participation in in-services to residents or other hospital departments, and participation community education events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
