About The Position

Nexus Children's Hospital – Dallas is seeking a compassionate, innovative, and collaborative Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physician to join our growing pediatric neurorehabilitation team. This physician leader will play a critical role in advancing functional outcomes for children and adolescents with complex medical, neurological, developmental, and behavioral conditions. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide specialized rehabilitation medicine services for patients recovering from traumatic brain injuries, neurological disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, spinal cord injuries, and other medically complex diagnoses. This position offers the unique opportunity to help shape and grow specialized pediatric rehabilitation programs while working alongside experienced physicians, therapists, nurses, psychologists, and behavioral health professionals. Nexus Children's Hospital – Dallas provides specialized inpatient medical, rehabilitation, and behavioral healthcare services for children and adolescents with complex needs. Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency program
  • Minimum 2–5 years of rehabilitation medicine experience preferred
  • Pediatric rehabilitation experience preferred
  • Experience treating patients with: Traumatic Brain Injury, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Neurologic Conditions, Complex Medical and Behavioral Needs
  • Experience in interdisciplinary team leadership and program development strongly preferred
  • Active, unrestricted Texas Medical License (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation through ABPMR
  • Current DEA Registration
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • PALS Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Fellowship training or subspecialty certification in: Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine, Brain Injury Medicine, Neurorehabilitation
  • Experience in inpatient rehabilitation hospital settings
  • Experience working with medically complex pediatric populations

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive rehabilitation evaluations addressing physical, cognitive, behavioral, psychosocial, and functional impairments.
  • Develop and oversee individualized rehabilitation treatment plans.
  • Lead interdisciplinary rehabilitation planning and coordinate medical, behavioral, and therapy services.
  • Provide consultation, ongoing management, and rehabilitative medical care for medically complex pediatric patients.
  • Participate in weekly interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and discharge planning conferences.
  • Guide care progression and community reintegration strategies.
  • Serve as a clinical leader for pediatric neurorehabilitation programs.
  • Support development and enhancement of specialty service lines including brain injury rehabilitation and neurodevelopmental programs.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership to improve clinical outcomes and patient experience.
  • Assist in developing policies, procedures, and evidence-based clinical pathways.
  • Provide medical management of complex neurologic and functional conditions including: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Cerebral Palsy, Neuromuscular Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, Functional Impairments, Behavioral Dysregulation.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust rehabilitation plans to maximize outcomes.
  • Support therapy teams in implementing effective rehabilitation interventions.
  • Ensure rehabilitation services meet medical necessity and regulatory requirements.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, prognosis, and functional expectations.
  • Advocate for individualized, patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with caregivers to support successful transitions and long-term recovery.
  • Promote dignity, respect, and culturally responsive care.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation supporting medical necessity and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and outcomes measurement.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, CARF standards, Joint Commission requirements, and applicable state regulations.
  • Promote patient safety and risk reduction strategies.
  • Collaborate with case management and utilization review teams to optimize outcomes and reimbursement.
