About The Position

BASIS Independent Brooklyn Upper School, a private school serving grades 3–12, is seeking a Physical Education Teacher for immediate hire. The teacher develops engaging, subject-specific lesson plans and teaches students about exercise, sporting skills, attitude, and health topics. Instruction covers foundational principles such as warming up, stretching, and cooling down, while emphasizing attitude, performance, and athletic skills. The teacher may collaborate with other Subject Expert Teachers to connect physical education with subjects such as science or history.

The role involves implementing the BASIS Curriculum through creative lessons and assessments, delivering instruction above grade-level standards in an interactive environment, and supporting students’ academic and personal development. The teacher also tutors students, manages classroom behavior, and collaborates with colleagues in a professional academic community.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in the subject area.
• Deep knowledge of and passion for the subject taught.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and engage students in rigorous content.
• Ability to create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Openness to feedback and continuous growth.

Responsibilities

• Prepare subject-specific physical education lessons.
• Provide subject instruction above grade-level standards in an interactive learning environment and deliver strong results for students.
• Implement the BASIS Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments.
• Collaborate with other BASIS Independent teachers and contribute to a professional academic community.
• Tutor students in content-specific knowledge and skills.
• Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, and individuality.
• Teach students about exercise, sporting skills, attitude, health topics, and foundational warm-up, stretching, and cool-down principles.
• Collaborate with other Subject Expert Teachers to blend physical education content with other subjects, such as science or history.
