About The Position

The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for developing coursework to support effective instruction of Physical Education at the school level. This role involves delivering instruction that promotes an exemplary educational program and ensures success for all students. The duties include instructing students in various settings, developing and implementing course content, administering and grading assignments, designing assessments, creating a positive classroom environment, monitoring student progress, communicating with parents and staff, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in various school and district activities.

Requirements

Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
Bachelor's degree
Student teaching/practicum/internship experience that meets or exceeds Colorado's requirements
Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license
CDE endorsements in Physical Education (K-12) or equivalent to be considered in field
Hold or willing to obtain certifications in WSI, CPR, LGI and AED
Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
Basic classroom management and planning skills
Basic organizational skills
Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
Ability to align curriculum and assessments with state content standards
Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
Ability to assume leadership in the development and communication of programs and curriculum
Ability and desire to work as a team member
Ability to actively participate in a Professional Learning Community
Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups

Formal education beyond a Bachelor’s degree
Three (3) years of successful teaching experience
Experience working in the public sector

Responsibilities

Instruct students in large, small, and one-on-one situations.
Develop, plan, prepare, and implement course content, format, structure, schedule, individualized programs of instruction for students, classroom materials and curriculum, lesson plans, and learning activities.
Administer, edit, proofread, and grade students’ assignments and assessments.
Design assessment tasks that allow students to demonstrate understanding in a variety of ways and use the data to give meaningful feedback and modify instruction.
Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunity, supervise the behavior and well-being of students in the classroom and all educational settings, and administer discipline when appropriate.
Monitor student growth and progress, adapt support as needed, and maintain documentation pertinent to academic, social, and emotional progress and needs of students.
Communicate students’ progress, needs, and eligibility with parents/guardians and other staff as needed.
Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes.
Participate in department, team, building, and District meetings and discussions; student and/or family conferences; social, cultural, interscholastic, and extracurricular activities; and professional growth opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
