About The Position

The Multicultural Learning Center (MLC) is seeking a passionate Physical Education teacher to engage and support all students in promoting physical activity. This teacher will lead physical education classes and provide a health elective, which could include instructing nutrition, dance, or healthy lessons. Teachers at MLC are responsible for fulfilling the goals and objectives of MLC’s educational program, including preparing and implementing engaging, standards-based lessons in two languages, classroom and behavior management, and assessment. They must commit to professional growth and development, collaborate with the school community to maintain a positive learning environment, and report to the Principal. Specifically, MLC is looking for an individual who can engage students in developing healthy lifestyles through daily physical activity and teaching health and nutrition.

Requirements

Must possess a current Single Subject California Teaching Credential, EL Authorized.
Fluency in both English and Spanish and academic level vocabulary and syntax expertise in both languages.
Growth mindset.
Constructive teaching methodology.
Pedagogy focused on social emotional learning, content integration, student-driven instruction, and project-based learning.

Responsibilities

Create and maintain effective environments for student learning, where students are excited about learning about health and movement.
Understand and organize subject matter for student learning in a way that fosters individual and group participation.
Plan instruction and design differentiated learning experiences for a range of needs and abilities utilizing the Common Core Standards.
Administer State assessments and enter correct data in a timely manner.
Collect and analyze student data to improve the school-wide instructional program.
Collaborate with Resource Teachers, students, and families to support the academic and social development of students with disabilities and suggest options for improvement.
Attend IEP, 504, and SST meetings as required for your students.
Continually support student behavior with systems for feedback, reflection, and growth.
Monitor student progress, maintain student records and portfolios.
Communicate and actively build strong relationships with students and parents/guardians on a weekly basis, including leading parent conference meetings.
Welcome open inquiry and peer feedback and review.
Participate in school-wide events such as Back-To-School Night, Open Houses, and Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Attend and implement professional development training throughout and beyond the school year.
Participate on school governance committees and in decision-making processes.
Recruit and retain students and families to the dual-immersion program.
Maintain control of equipment, keeping abreast of what is needed and storing it in an organized and safe space.
Have a productive plan in place for incremental weather.
Demonstrate and explain basic skills and knowledge of formal sports, exercises, and fundamentals of body movement.
Provide group instruction to fulfill curriculum to the needs of students.
Provide appropriate safety guidelines and instruction.
Make safety checks of equipment and field areas.
Establish standards of student behavior and maintain order to create a productive environment.
Evaluate students’ progress in skills and knowledge of team-building exercises.
