About The Position

Highline Academy is seeking a Physical Education Teacher for the Northeast Campus for the 2026-2027 school year. This role reports directly to the campus principal and is central to bringing the school's mission to life. Teachers are expected to care for the whole child, be excellent lesson planners, possess strong classroom management skills, and collaborate effectively with colleagues and families. The ideal candidate will have good communication skills, a dedication to making a difference for each child, and a growth mindset. The position is full-time, Monday-Friday, with a 189-day work year that includes student contact days, professional development, and parent conference days. Teachers are expected on campus from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with an extended day until 4:30 pm on Fridays for professional development or planning. Two weeks of professional development are also required each summer. Highline Academy is committed to inclusive excellence, serving a diverse student population from various countries and backgrounds. The school offers a liberal arts education, including P.E., and provides robust support systems like Performance Groups and intervention programs for students needing additional help. A character education program called Reach is integrated into the curriculum, focusing on responsibility, empowerment, aspiration, citizenship, and honesty. Requirements

Valid teaching credential appropriate to their teaching assignment
Teaching experience appropriate to the assignment
Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Highline mission
Highly qualified per No Child Left Behind (NCLB) specifications
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Be able to walk quickly, bend, kneel, crouch, sit, stand, grab or hold with one or both hands.
To be able to lift up to 40lbs without difficulty
To maintain appropriate demeanor and professional classroom behavior when working with children and adults
The ability to sit for extended periods during group training

Design and implement a comprehensive Physical Education program for all grades that reflects students’ and broader communities’ interests, and reinforces Highline Academy’s school culture.
Lead the Positive Action SEL curriculum/program to emphasize actions that promote a healthy and positive cycle.
Teach students how to maintain a healthy lifestyle while engaging in physical fitness.
Collaborate with department peers, homeroom teachers, and families to provide a rigorous and supportive education.
Provide engaging, motivating, and rigorous instruction in whole-class and individual settings.
Teach and reinforce school-wide systems, rules, consequences, and rewards.
Meet at least weekly with their team to co-plan themes and concepts in their units.
Meet with homeroom teachers, special education or interventionist teachers to further support all students.
Reinforce the Reach program and support in the organization of community events, in which Reach principles are infused.
Enter grades into the school learning management system based on performance-based, formative and summative assessments.
Provide a Teaching Assistant with appropriate assignments for students and tasks in the classroom and guidance for how to work well with all students.
Set the tone with students each day and establish community expectations.
Build positive relationships with students and hold them to high expectations.
Manage classes with positive proactive systems and strong rituals and routines.
Seek out more information and support from other staff members if a student is not doing well behaviorally or academically.
Set up a class website and/or collaborate on a department newsletter showcasing student work.
Engage parents as volunteers for class events/performances, building relationships with families through phone calls, formal and informal meetings.
Show up for at least three evening or weekend events such as music performances, the Cultural Fair and the Fall festival.
Help plan and lead at least one pre-planned event for families during the year.
Attend all professional development as assigned by their principal and participate with respect and attention.
Participate as a member of at least one network, school, board or parent group committee to support the ongoing work of improving our school and supporting school culture.
