About The Position

Aecon Nuclear, in partnership with Atkins Realis, has been awarded a contract by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to assist in planning the Pickering Retube, Feeder and Boiler replacement (RFBR) project. This significant project involves the refurbishment of four reactors and the replacement of forty-eight steam generators at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. The PHT and Mod Dry Area Manager will be responsible for leading a team focused on delivering a critical scope area for the Retube and Feeder Replacement project. The Area Manager holds single-point accountability for the safe, timely, budget-adherent, and quality-focused delivery of the assigned project scope.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of project management experience in a related role.
  • Experience and skill in detailed work planning, including scope definition, staffing, budget, and schedule formation.
  • Experience with project management toolsets, including planning, staffing, scheduling, risk management, performance measurement, and cost controls.
  • Demonstrated leadership of construction trades and professional project staff.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety programs, hazard identification, and mitigation.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Highly self-motivated team player with a participative management style and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to identify planning and training gaps, generate effective solutions, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Results-oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • People-oriented with the ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff and clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator with superior interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Nuclear Construction Industry experience is an asset.
  • Lean construction experience is an asset, especially that related to workface performance improvement (Gemba).

Responsibilities

  • Lead a matrixed team comprising Construction, Engineering, Training, Tooling, Quality, Procurement, and CWP development to prepare for and execute a defined portion of the project scope.
  • Interface with the client and all involved CanAtom stakeholders to lead a team in developing an implementation plan for the assigned scope.
  • Review and incorporate previous operational experience (OPEX) and lessons learned related to the assigned scope.
  • Lead the preparation for work using the Canatom readiness process to ensure efficient performance in support of the schedule.
  • Resolve issues, escalate when necessary, and drive accountability for readiness within the matrixed support team.
  • Ensure planning is focused on safe workface production with a clear end goal.
  • Collaborate with construction to ensure detailed constructability reviews are performed and implemented, and that construction supervision is thoroughly familiar with the CWP details.
  • Review and improve the working schedule and resource plan, ensuring schedule quality.
  • Coordinate material and tooling delivery, including all logistics such as prefabrication, interim storage, transport, workface handling, and storage.
  • Review and improve all processes and procedures supporting the assigned scope, with a focus on continuous improvement throughout the work execution.
  • Lead the field execution of the assigned scope, driving accountability for performance from each support organization (engineering, construction, procurement, tooling, training, QC).
  • Establish and monitor metrics for measuring cost, schedule, quality, and safety performance related to the assigned scope, with support from the Project Controls organization.
  • Review and improve the training plan associated with the assigned task and develop any required Playbooks or other tools/aides to enhance work efficiency and reduce human performance errors.
  • Review and improve any related subcontracts supporting the assigned task.
  • Oversee the tracking and resolution of emergent issues affecting task planning and/or implementation.
  • Serve as the focal point for Canatom and the Client for items and issues related to the assigned task.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage budgets allocated to the assigned task.
