Photonic Integrated Circuit Researcher

Veracity Ventures Inc.•Santa Clara, CA
•$160,000 - $220,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Researcher will invent, develop, simulate, design, and validate advanced integrated photonic technologies at Keysight Laboratories. The role combines measurement science, optical waveguide theory, PIC design, simulation, layout, and hands-on component characterization. The researcher will investigate emerging technologies, develop innovative measurement concepts, implement solutions in hardware and software, and demonstrate technical feasibility. Successful innovations may be transferred to Keysight business units for integration into commercial products. This onsite role in Santa Clara, California, calls for a strong theoretical and practical understanding of integrated photonics, a research-oriented mindset, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Relocation assistance may be available for an ideal candidate.

Requirements

  • Completed Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, such as photonics, electrical engineering, optics, physics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct innovative research in integrated photonics.
  • Deep understanding of optical waveguide theory, including mode solving, optical confinement, polarization, and dispersion.
  • Experience with PIC simulation, design, and layout.
  • Familiarity with one or more relevant PIC tools: RSoft, Lumerical, Tidy3D, IPKISS, or KLayout.
  • Extensive hands-on PIC component characterization experience.
  • Familiarity with die-level or wafer-level optical and electrical probing of passive and active PIC devices.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Self-motivation and ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Research experience in integrated photonics; candidate details list 2–5 years.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with script-based PIC layout.
  • Familiarity with commercial PIC foundry tape-out processes.
  • Experience in RF or microwave simulation and design.
  • Experience with circuit-level simulation tools, such as ADS, INTERCONNECT, or VPI.
  • Experience in photonic or electronic packaging.
  • Experience with Python-based laboratory automation, including instrument control and data acquisition.
  • Experience with PIC foundry tape-outs, circuit-level simulation, RF or microwave design, packaging, or Python-based lab automation.

Responsibilities

  • Invent, develop, simulate, design, and validate advanced integrated photonic technologies.
  • Investigate emerging technologies and develop innovative measurement concepts.
  • Implement solutions in hardware and software and demonstrate their technical feasibility.
  • Conduct hands-on characterization of PIC components and interpret experimental results.
  • Connect optical waveguide theory with real-world device performance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Support potential transfer of successful innovations to Keysight business units for commercial product integration.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance may be available for an ideal candidate.
