The qualified candidate will be a self-motivated, driven, creative, and committed individual producing high-quality content for Newport News Shipbuilding. This role requires extensive experience working in a fast-paced environment with a strong emphasis on visual storytelling. The photographer will be expected to work both independently and in a team setting, immersing themselves into the shipyard's industrial environment, becoming familiar with operations, and collaborating with shipbuilders in office, studio, and waterfront settings. A fast learner with outstanding attention to detail and confidence in quick decision-making within an ever-changing industrial environment is essential. The role is responsible for using a variety of cameras to capture content of company products, facilities, employees, and guests for internal and public communication channels. Imagery will be edited, delivered, and archived without the use of artificial intelligence. The candidate must obtain specific information about the content captured and develop captions with attention to detail to ensure accuracy. Products will be expected to be delivered in the proper file size and type, often with quick turnaround times. The position involves photographing studio headshots with professional lighting equipment and environmental portraits with off-camera lighting. Printing photographs on large format printers is also a requirement. The photographer will capture images of products, persons, buildings, machinery, equipment, parts, and other subjects for promotion, marketing, publicity, manufacturing, engineering, or administrative needs. This includes arranging equipment, setting cameras, enlarging/reducing prints, and using various still cameras and related equipment. The candidate will be required to work in an industrial setting, conducting extensive site surveys, logistics planning, and performing physical work including lifting and climbing. Documenting work on ships, at sea, and from elevated locations will be necessary. This position is part of the company’s emergency response organization. While work is mostly on first shift, the candidate must be available to work outside of first shift hours, including weekends, as assignments dictate, including support for special events.
