About The Position

Mrs Wordsmith is an education company dedicated to improving reading instruction in the US. Their Systematic Phonics Program, based on UK Science of Reading practices, aims to help students read within three months. The core of their offering is teacher training, and this role involves being the first US-based trainer to deliver this program to schools.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of US elementary classroom teaching, reading intervention, or literacy coaching experience.
  • Deep, practical knowledge of systematic phonics and the Science of Reading.
  • Experience delivering professional development or training to adults.
  • Ability to hold a room of skeptical teachers.
  • Genuine appetite for outreach, prospecting, pitching, and asking for pilots.
  • Self-direction to build your own pipeline and calendar.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to schools.
  • US work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • LETRS, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Fundations, or equivalent training.
  • Experience selling into schools or districts (edtech, curriculum, PD services).
  • Familiarity with special education frameworks (IDEA, IEPs, RTI/MTSS) and Title I funding.
  • An existing network among district literacy or special education leaders.
  • Experience supporting English Language Learners.
  • Based within practical reach of the Northeast.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver energetic, practical, and fun phonics training days to teachers.
  • Conduct a second Readers training day three months after the initial phonics training.
  • Train paraprofessionals to deliver five-minute top-up lessons for students needing extra support.
  • Explain the program's economic case, particularly its benefits for SpEd budgets.
  • Identify and pursue potential schools and districts by contacting principals, literacy directors, Special Education Directors, and curriculum leads.
  • Present the program, run demos, and navigate school decision-making processes to secure pilot programs.
  • Support the implementation of the program in schools by checking in, reviewing assessment data, and troubleshooting.
  • Turn early successes into case studies and referrals.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and certifying future trainers as the US market grows.
  • Complete intensive certification training with the Head of Education.
