The Phlebotomy Support Technician I is responsible for the collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed. This includes confirming patient ID, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, accurately labeling specimens, and processing them for subsequent testing. The role also involves accessioning, updating information, and making corrections to orders as needed. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams
  • Proficient in using computers and computer systems
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: 3 months phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: Must provide updated certification within 30 days of expiration if renewal has been applied for
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: Good verbal and written communication skills
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech I: Strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech I: Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech I: Demonstrates clear verbal and written communication skills
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech I: Excellent customer service, time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills

Nice To Haves

  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: 6 months phlebotomy experience
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech I: 6 months phlebotomy experience OR 1 year related experience

Responsibilities

  • Collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed
  • Performs proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID
  • Collecting specimens in proper tubes
  • Utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques
  • Accurately labeling the specimens to ensure accurate patient results
  • Processes specimens appropriately for subsequent testing
  • Accessions, updates information and makes corrections to orders as needed
