About The Position

The Phlebotomy Support Technician is responsible for the collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed. This role involves ensuring proper specimen collection through patient ID confirmation, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurate labeling. The technician also processes specimens for subsequent testing and manages order accessioning, updates, and corrections. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: 3 months phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: 30 days from the expiration date of their certificate to provide an updated certification, as long as there is documentation that certification renewal has been applied for
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams
  • Proficient in using computers and computer systems
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills (for Tech I)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management (for Tech I)
  • Demonstrates clear verbal and written communication skills (for Tech I)
  • Excellent customer service, time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills (for Tech I)

  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech II: 6 months phlebotomy experience
  • For Phlebotomy Support Tech I: 6 months phlebotomy experience OR 1 year related experience

Responsibilities

  • Collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed
  • Performs proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID
  • Collecting specimens in proper tubes
  • Utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques
  • Accurately labeling the specimens to ensure accurate patient results
  • Processes specimens appropriately for subsequent testing
  • Accessions, updates information and makes corrections to orders as needed
