About The Position

The Phlebotomy Support Technician is responsible for the collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed. This role involves performing proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurately labeling the specimens to ensure accurate patient results. The technician also processes specimens appropriately for subsequent testing, accessions, updates information, and makes corrections to orders as needed. Additionally, the position requires demonstrating the ability to perform Point of Care (POC) testing as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required for both Phlebotomy Support Tech I and II)
  • 3 months phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • Proficient in using computers and computer systems (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • Phlebotomist II’s must provide an updated certification within 30 days from the expiration date of their certificate, as long as there is documentation that certification renewal has been applied for (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • No experience required (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Demonstrates clear verbal and written communication skills (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Proficient in using computers and computer systems (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Excellent customer service, time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • No licensure/certification/registration required (Required for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months phlebotomy experience (Preferred for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • 6 months phlebotomy experience OR 1 year related experience (Preferred for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
