About The Position

This is a 4-month full-time temporary position designed to provide on-the-job training to acquire the necessary phlebotomy skills for the Inpatient Phlebotomist - Vascular Access Technician position. The role involves various tasks including specimen receipt, identification verification, tracking, packaging, and transport, as well as supply stocking and answering phones. The phlebotomy assistant will also learn basic phlebotomy knowledge and collection skills to perform supervised blood collections on adult patients, ensuring proper patient identification, adherence to collection procedures, bedside labeling, and specimen transport. Compliance with regulatory and safety requirements, and maintaining patient confidentiality are essential. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, utilizing strong customer relations and communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction. A positive and professional demeanor is expected, along with flexibility in scheduling, including off-shifts, holidays, and weekends. Visa sponsorship and F-1 STEM OPT extension are not available for this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with computers
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, follow written and verbal instruction and problem solve.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of tasks in hospital general patient care areas including specimen receipt, identification verification, tracking, packaging and transport.
  • Stocks supplies and answers phones.
  • Trains on the job to learn basic phlebotomy knowledge and collection skills.
  • Performs supervised blood collections on adult patients.
  • Ensures proper patient identification, collects blood according to procedure, labels specimens at the bedside, and transports them to the proper testing lab.
  • Complies with regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Upholds patient confidentiality.
  • Utilizes good customer relations and communication skills with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Accommodates scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments.
