About The Position

This is a 4-month full time temporary position designed to provide on-the-job training to acquire the necessary phlebotomy skills for applying to the Inpatient Phlebotomist - Vascular Access Technician position, which is slated to start on June 29th, 2026. The role encompasses a variety of tasks within the hospital's general patient care areas, including specimen receipt, identification verification, tracking, packaging and transport, supply stocking, and answering phones. The phlebotomy assistant will receive training to learn fundamental phlebotomy knowledge and collection techniques, enabling them to perform supervised blood collections on adult patients in a hospital environment. This involves patient identification, adherence to blood collection procedures, bedside labeling, and transporting specimens to the appropriate testing laboratory for analysis. The position mandates compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements, as well as strict adherence to patient confidentiality. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, employing strong customer relations and communication skills with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction. A positive and professional demeanor is expected. The role requires flexibility to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, and assignments on holidays and weekends. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position, and it does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tasks in the hospital general patient care areas that includes specimen receipt, identification verification, tracking, packaging and transport, supply stocking and answering phones.
  • Train on the job to learn basic phlebotomy knowledge and collections skills in order to perform supervised blood collections on adult patients in the hospital setting.
  • Perform patient identification, collect blood according to procedure, label at the bedside and transport specimens to the proper testing lab for analysis.
  • Comply with regulatory and safety requirements and uphold patient confidentiality.
  • Utilize good customer relations and communication skills with patients, nurses, providers and others health care professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction.
