About The Position

Geisinger Medical Laboratories is hiring a Phlebotomist to collect and procure blood and other human specimens in clinical and non-clinical settings. The role contributes to patient experience and safe, high-quality care by collaborating with clinical and non-clinical colleagues. Phlebotomists perform venipunctures and skin punctures, identify patients, collect and label specimens, accession and process samples, and assess specimen acceptability. Other duties include troubleshooting physician orders, supporting patients, managing inventory, mentoring students and new employees, and assisting with continuous improvement and investigative processes. The position collects specimens in acute, post-acute, clinic, and field-service areas as needed. Employees work independently and accountably while functioning as part of a team, escalating issues to laboratory leadership as appropriate. The role requires use of relevant Geisinger business applications and tools, adherence to safety protocols at non-Geisinger facilities, and compliance with fleet maintenance policies and vehicle preventive-maintenance schedules. Initial and annual competency requirements include a Learning Management System exam and direct-observation checklist. A mobile phlebotomy toolkit must be carried, requiring the ability to carry or lift 15 pounds. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The employer considers candidates for Phlebotomist I, II, and III at appropriate compensation, with salary commensurate with experience. Phlebotomist I is described as having less than one year of experience; Phlebotomist II requires one to two years of experience or graduation from Geisinger's School of Phlebotomy Program; Phlebotomist III requires Phlebotomist II qualifications, ASCP certification, and completion of an internal preceptor course.
