About The Position

This job performs laboratory functions to support patient care. Duties include conducting phlebotomy procedures; processing, receiving, accessioning, and distributing specimens; and performing and reporting results for specific test procedures. The role also performs clinical assignments, supports departmental goals, resolves problems, and adapts communication and service to the needs of each patient population while respecting privacy and requesting permission for procedures. The position requires compliance with applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and the employer’s Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct. Other related duties may be assigned, and the description may be amended.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Computer skills and dexterity for entering and retrieving patient information.
• Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard use.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and professionally to people at varying levels throughout the patient care process.
• Knowledge of venipuncture procedures.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a phlebotomy course.
• Current license or trainee license in the state of practice.

Responsibilities

• Adapt interactions to the patient population, including respecting privacy, introducing oneself appropriately, explaining services or procedures, requesting permission, and adjusting communication style.
• Remain knowledgeable about and comply with applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Immediately report known or suspected unethical or questionable conduct and patient or employee safety, privacy, or other compliance concerns.
• Perform other related duties as required.
