About The Position

Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut is seeking a part-time Phlebotomist for its Physician Blood Draw Department. This role is suited to someone who enjoys working independently and is part of a specialized team. The position is primarily responsible for obtaining blood specimens, processing laboratory specimens for clinical analysis, providing patient information to the appropriate caregiver, and ensuring accurate and complete patient registration. The phlebotomist must be flexible to cover Physician Blood Draw locations as needed.

The schedule is 24 hours per week, during the day: Monday through Friday from 12 to 5 and every third Saturday from 7 to 11. Hours may change slightly depending on the location.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a phlebotomy program.
• At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a blood draw station, ambulatory care, or acute care setting.
• Knowledge of information systems.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with patients, staff, and outside providers.
• Ability to take initiative and work independently.

Nice To Haves

• National Phlebotomy Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify patients according to policy and perform venipuncture using standard or butterfly methods.
• Label all specimens according to laboratory policy.
• Receive, cancel, and order laboratory and microbiology specimens, and process specimens.
• Provide patient information to the appropriate caregiver.
• Ensure accurate and complete patient registration.
• Cover other Physician Blood Draw locations when necessary.
