Performs routine and special blood specimen collection for all age specific patients. This role involves collecting products or specimens for basic procedures, potentially performing point-of-care testing, and adhering to strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis. The phlebotomist will assist in patient care before, during, and after specimen collection. Key responsibilities include understanding pre-analytic variables, test synonyms, abbreviations, and cross-referencing tests to specimen types. The role also requires utilizing the laboratory computer information system, leveraging quality assurance data to improve services, and recommending procedural changes for quality and customer satisfaction. Maintaining hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies are essential. The position also involves maintaining professional development, organizing supplies and equipment, notifying appropriate personnel for re-ordering or repairs, and assisting in the training of new associates or students.
