About The Position

Carter BloodCare is expanding its dynamic team of Phlebotomists and is looking for individuals passionate about helping others, committed to delivering the highest care and customer service to our donors, and willing to learn. This role is essential to the procurement process of safe and quality blood products. Opportunities are available on Mobile Collections teams, which travel to different locations for blood drives, and Donor Center teams, located throughout North, Central and East Texas. Mobile Collections teams offer a unique opportunity to connect with different donors daily, while Donor Center team members can build relationships with regular donors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months of general work experience OR comparable education in the medical field, such as an internship or externship.
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information.
  • Ability to apply common sense in performing job.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by communicating professionally with others through the spoken word, email, text, or written report.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing environment including changing processes/procedures and work effectively in high stress situations.
  • Normal vision requirements include ability to see close and distant objects, adjust focus, distinguish colors, and judge distance.

Responsibilities

  • Personally connect with donors, listen to their stories, and help them understand the impact of their donation.
  • Collaborate with teammates to create a friendly environment so volunteer donors feel comfortable returning and encouraging friends/family to donate.
  • Be detail-oriented to ensure blood collected meets regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
  • Work with the team to move, set up, and take down equipment at mobile blood drives.
  • Handle donors and access equipment, including standing, sitting, walking, stooping, and working in confined spaces and narrow aisles.
  • Ascend and descend stairs/steps to enter and exit transport vehicles, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend to set up and access equipment during use.
  • Communicate with donors to obtain medical history and monitor them during donation.
  • Move and set up blood collection equipment/supplies weighing up to 25 pounds daily and partner carry items over 25 pounds (up to 50 pounds for Donor Center Phlebotomists, up to 120 pounds for Mobile Collections Phlebotomists).
  • Periodically assist donors experiencing a reaction.
  • Frequently load and unload vehicles, potentially push carts/dollies weighing up to 250 pounds, handle various equipment and cases in all weather conditions (Mobile Collections Phlebotomists).
  • Adapt to frequent schedule changes and work irregular shifts and long hours.
  • Understand, remember, and apply oral/written instructions, apply common sense, follow basic instructions and guidelines, and communicate professionally.
  • Adapt quickly to changing environments, processes, and procedures, and work effectively in high-stress situations.
  • Maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude at all times.
  • Meet goals and objectives and adhere to deadlines.
  • Regularly exposed to cleaning chemicals, including bleach.
