About The Position

Preferred Primary Care Physicians is currently recruiting for a full-time Phlebotomist at a busy PPCP Office located in the Carnegie area. The successful candidate must have at least 6 months experience as a clinical Phlebotomist and be comfortable working with all aspects of a Phlebotomy position, including essentials such as working with computers and having the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment. Preferred Primary Care Physicians (PPCP) was established in 1995 by a group of dedicated physicians in the South Hills with the common purpose of providing the highest quality care to their patients. It is an independently owned practice that now operates out of more than 20 locations in the greater Pittsburgh area. PPCP's elevated level of service is supported by a team-based approach, comprehensive clinical programs, and state-of-the-art outpatient centers. The company promotes a positive, healthy work environment and offers a great Monday through Friday day schedule.

Requirements

  • at least 6 months experience as a clinical Phlebotomist
  • comfortable working with all aspects of a Phlebotomy position, including essentials such as working with computers and having the ability to multi-task in a fast paced working environment
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of medical assistant.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months of medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log; bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.
  • Verifies patient by reading patient identification.
  • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and fingersticks.
  • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.
  • Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
  • Performs bleeding-times tests by entering results to the computer; notifying pathologist of results falling outside normal ranges.
  • Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule; recording results in the quality-control log; identifying and reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
