About The Position

Ascension Alexian Brothers is seeking a Phlebotomist for 20 hours per week, working the AM shift from 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This role may require the ability to stay for the PM shift and will involve weekend and/or holiday rotation. The position is part of a large integrated laboratory network serving hospitals in the Midwest region. The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens, performing laboratory office duties, and processing laboratory specimens. This includes registering patients, entering data into the computer system, specimen accessioning, answering phones, processing paperwork, and preparing specimens for testing or shipment. The role may also involve performing waived and specified non-waived POC tests, acting as a driver, and participating in on-call rotations in some facilities.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training is required
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record

Responsibilities

Collection of blood specimens
Performing laboratory office duties
Processing laboratory specimens
Registering patients
Accurately and completely entering all necessary data into the computer system
Specimen accessioning
Answering telephone calls
Processing paperwork
Preparation of specimens for testing and/or for sending to the central laboratory or to a reference laboratory
Handling blood, body fluid and urine specimens according to established procedures
Performing limited waived and specified non-waived POC tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director
Acting as a driver and participating in the on-call rotation (in some facilities, as required)
