About The Position

The Phlebotomist collects blood specimens, performs laboratory office duties, and processes laboratory specimens. Office duties include registering patients; accurately and completely entering required information into the computer system; accessioning specimens; answering telephone calls; and processing paperwork. Specimen processing includes preparing specimens for testing or shipment to the central or a reference laboratory. The role handles blood, body fluid, and urine specimens according to established procedures and may perform limited waived and specified non-waived point-of-care tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director. At some facilities, the employee may also serve as a driver and participate in the on-call rotation.

This position is listed with an FTE of 0.9 and a schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM, and Saturday, 7:30 AM–12:00 PM. The location is Alverno PSC Michigan City – Coolspring, 1225 E. Coolspring Avenue, Michigan City, Indiana 46360.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training.
• Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
• May be required to travel or drive to other locations.

Nice To Haves

• Background in a medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology.
