About The Position

The Phlebotomist works for Outreach Phlebotomy Services at the Alverno PSC Hammond Clinic Specialty Center in Munster, Indiana. The position is 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE) and works rotating shifts, with weekend and/or holiday rotation. The listed operating hours are 7:00 AM–8:30 PM Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM–6:00 PM Saturdays, and 8:00 AM–6:00 PM Sundays and holidays.

The role collects blood specimens, performs laboratory office duties, and processes laboratory specimens. Office duties include registering patients, entering required data accurately and completely into the computer system, accessioning specimens, answering telephone calls, and processing paperwork. Specimen processing includes preparing specimens for testing or shipment to a central or reference laboratory. The employee handles blood, body fluid, and urine specimens according to established procedures and may perform limited waived and specified non-waived point-of-care tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director. At some facilities, the employee may be required to drive and participate in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training.
• Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
• May be required to travel or drive to other locations.

• Background in a medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology.
