About The Position

The Phlebotomist collects blood specimens, performs laboratory office duties, and processes laboratory specimens. Office duties include registering patients, entering necessary information accurately and completely into the computer system, accessioning specimens, answering telephone calls, and processing paperwork. Specimen processing includes preparing specimens for testing or for shipment to the central or a reference laboratory. The role handles blood, body fluid, and urine specimens according to established procedures and may perform limited waived and specified non-waived point-of-care tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director. At some facilities, the employee may be required to drive and participate in the on-call rotation. The position is based at the Alverno PSC Munster location in Munster, Indiana, and may require travel or driving to other locations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

• Background in a medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology.
