About The Position

Cooley Dickinson Health Care, a member of the Mass General Brigham system since 1886, advances health care in western Massachusetts, employing over 2,000 medical professionals and support staff across its main Hospital campus and twelve additional locations. The Phlebotomist is responsible for patient reception, gathering registration information, ordering tests, generating specimen labels, and escorting patients to phlebotomy services. This role involves performing phlebotomy on all patient populations and executing various semi-technical and clerical tasks such as specimen receiving, sorting, data entry, record retrieval, filing, typing envelopes, and handling telephone inquiries for results, testing, general information, and call routing. This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Six (6) months direct phlebotomy experience or completion of an 80 hour clinical rotation
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, take initiative, make independent decisions, and maintain organized working conditions (even in stressful situations) required
  • Must be competent in phlebotomy skills/competency checklist by end of introductory period or position will be forfeited
  • Clerical experience including medical terminology required
  • Reliable transportation for assignments outside of the hospital required

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred
  • Completion of an 80 hour clinical rotation, preferably at Cooley Dickinson Health Care (CDHC)
  • Clerical experience, preferably in a laboratory setting
