The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood, and non-blood, specimens using appropriate blood collection equipment according to the Laboratory Specimen Collection Manual and Phlebotomy Procedures. This role involves interpreting physician orders, collecting specimens from patients of all ages, processing lab specimens, and adhering to safe practices. Additionally, the Phlebotomist may perform outpatient EKGs, operate a centrifuge, ensure proper specimen transfer and storage, and communicate with the central scheduler, regional coordinators, and managers. Travel between sites may be required for unscheduled absences or emergencies. The role also includes ongoing review and compliance with all Network and departmental policies and procedures.
