About The Position

The Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and skin puncture, collects and handles specimens, and supports timely and accurate delivery of specimens to the laboratory. The role requires technical phlebotomy skills, empathy, and clear communication to provide patients with a safe and exceptional care experience. The position is with Lakeview Hospital, part of LCMC Health.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED, or 2 years of applicable experience, or phlebotomist certification.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and skin puncture in accordance with standard procedures.
• Use handheld devices for specimen collection.
• Monitor the collection list and document the status of outstanding collections.
• Deliver STAT specimens to the Lab within 15 minutes of collection or pick up.
• Update specimens to receive status, ensure collection and receipt dates and times are accurate, and deliver specimens to the appropriate Lab Section immediately upon receipt.
• Communicate complaints or problems to the department supervisor.
• Collect data for the quality assurance program, maintain thorough and neat documentation, and monitor and clear collection pending reports.
• Demonstrate knowledge of standard phlebotomy techniques and appropriate blood processing and handling procedures.
• Maintain and advocate a safe environment for everyone.
• Engage with patients, families, and appropriate care team members about significant events, changes in patient condition, or patient questions and concerns.
• Support continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional patient experience.
• Assist other team members without being asked.
