About The Position

The Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy procedures to obtain specimens for laboratory testing and transports and processes samples. The role also includes clerical duties related to patient samples and testing. The position reports to the Lead Phlebotomist, Lab Manager, and Laboratory Director.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
At least 6 months of phlebotomy experience, or completion of a clinical phlebotomy program may be considered in lieu of experience.
Skilled phlebotomy technique.
BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Acute care hospital experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet patients and explain proper specimen collection methods.
Draw blood using finger sticks, heel sticks, or venipuncture, and collect other required specimens.
Accurately label specimens and enter specimen data into the computer.
Prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments.
Transport and process patient samples and perform related clerical duties.
Answer telephone calls.
