About The Position

The Phlebotomist works in Outreach Phlebotomy Services at the Alverno PSC RMC location in Chicago, Illinois. The position is 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE), with primarily day shifts, evenings as needed, rotating shifts, and weekend and/or holiday rotation. The employee collects blood specimens, performs laboratory office duties, and processes laboratory specimens. Depending on the facility and as required, the employee may act as a driver and participate in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• May be required to travel or drive to other locations.

Nice To Haves

• Background in a medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens.
• Register patients and accurately and completely enter required data into the computer system.
• Perform specimen accessioning and answer telephone calls.
• Process paperwork.
• Prepare specimens for testing or shipment to the central laboratory or a reference laboratory.
• Handle blood, body fluid, and urine specimens according to established procedures.
• Perform limited waived and specified non-waived point-of-care tests when authorized by the Laboratory Director.
• When required, act as a driver and participate in the on-call rotation.
