About The Position

This position performs venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy procedures on all ages of patients using appropriate specimen collection equipment and techniques. The role involves reviewing requisitions and orders from physicians to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and meet Medical Necessity guidelines. The technician will prepare Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABN) for tests that do not meet guidelines, prepare specimens for routine tests, prioritize requisitions, and ensure proper labeling and recording of specimens. Additionally, the role includes performing routine tests, setting up and operating test instruments, performing routine blood and coagulation tests, recording results, and processing specimens (centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging). The technician will also search Patient Station in EPIC for appropriate patient demographic information and report unusual problems to the Manager or others as required. Requirements

  • High School graduate with successful completion from a recognized program for training in phlebotomy or prior documented experience perform phlebotomies.
  • Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment and maintenance of annual competencies in BLS.
  • Familiarity with data entry and/or word processor and medical terminology.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience performing EKGs.
