About The Position

The Phlebotomist Float is responsible for collecting specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, blood samples, and processing pathology and cytology samples. This role involves researching test/client information, verifying orders, and accurately entering data for patient registration and test orders. The position also includes entering billing information, collecting payments, processing specimens, and ensuring accurate data for billing purposes through daily work in iLabs. The Phlebotomist Float will also handle departmental clerical duties, maintain logs, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. A key aspect of this role is verifying patient demographic information post-venipuncture and assisting with monthly statistics and data compilation. The position requires travel and staying up-to-date on company communications and techniques.

  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, blood samples, and processing pathology and cytology samples.
  • Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems or directory of services.
  • Complete all data entry requirements accurately, including data entry of patient registration and entry of test orders from requisitions.
  • Enter billing information and collect payments when required, including the safeguarding of assets and credit card information.
  • Perform data entry and processing of specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
  • Work iLabs for assigned accounts daily to ensure accurate data is provided for billing purposes.
  • Provide necessary CIR and PPE Resolution reporting to Director as required and scheduled.
  • Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned, such as data entry, inventory, stocking supplies, and answering phones.
  • Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Perform verification of patient demographic info/initials, including patient signature post-venipuncture to verify tubes were labeled in their presence and that the name on the label is correct.
  • Assist with compilation and submission of monthly statistics and data.
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
  • Complete training courses and keep up-to-date with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
  • Travel to Territory Manager meeting if held off-site or off normal shift.
  • Participate on special projects and teams.
  • Stay up-to-date on company communications.
