This is a full-time, days position for a Phlebotomist-Float. The role is responsible for verifying positive patient identification, assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement, and performing venipuncture and collecting other specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol. The phlebotomist will obtain specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times, ensuring completion of specimen collection functions and that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing. Responsibilities also include resolving specimen identification and/or requisition problems, performing limited testing under CLIA guidelines, answering and screening telephone calls, assisting with inventory and maintaining supplies/equipment, and providing assistance in support of Billing and other business functions. The role accepts specimens from various customers, receives and sorts specimens, orders and verifies test requests, documents appropriate information for quality assurance, runs quality control checks, and takes appropriate action to notify providers of stat, critical, and other abnormal results. Additionally, the phlebotomist performs laboratory result entry, internal and external proficiency testing, and instructs employees and students in phlebotomy, data entry, and specimen processing functions. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
