About The Position

The motto of the Enlightenment: Think for yourself! Study of the topics that follow from it: the autonomy of reason, liberty of thought, tolerance, the critique of religion, naturalism, universalism. Readings from authors such as Locke, Hume, Burke, Smith, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Rousseau, Kant, Lessing.

Requirements

  • PhD in philosophy with specialization in modern philosophy.
  • Experience in teaching university-level courses.
  • PhD students writing a thesis in modern philosophy will be considered when it is applicable.
  • Successful completion of all mandatory legislated training.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Philosophy of the Enlightenment course (PHI 2387 Section A00) during the 2027 Winter Semester.
  • Develop and submit a syllabus for approval by the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Philosophy.
  • Deliver instruction in English for an in-person course.
  • Complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
