About The Position

Trillium Health Partners is one of Canada’s largest community-based teaching hospitals, serving the growing and diverse populations of Mississauga, West Toronto, and surrounding communities. This role focuses on NAPRA Non-Sterile compounding and involves delivering quality patient care, enhancing patient safety through accurate pharmaceutical product preparation and release, and developing/maintaining non-sterile compounding policies and procedures. The position also includes supporting Ontario College of Pharmacists Hospital Accreditation for non-sterile compounding, performing duties in a computerized automated Unit Dose setting, repackaging, and intravenous admixing. Additionally, the role involves teaching pharmacy students in collaboration with other Pharmacy Technicians.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).
  • Minimum of 5 years of hospital experience or equivalent with non-sterile compounding experience.
  • Sound working knowledge of computer applications i.e. EPIC and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to handle a variety of complex tasks and issues promptly and efficiently while maintaining accuracy and meeting conflicting deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in providing exceptional patient centred care.
  • Ability to function efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a dynamic team of professionals.
  • Satisfactory performance and attendance required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of OCP Non-Sterile Compounding Supervisor training course.
  • Knowledge of the NAPRA Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Non-Sterile Preparations.
  • Experience developing non-sterile preparation policies and procedures; completing risk assessments; delivering training and skills assessments; and implementing quality assurance controls aligned with NAPRA standards.
  • Preceptor training with Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians (C.A.P.T) or Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacy (CSHP).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver quality patient care and excellent customer service.
  • Enhance patient safety by ensuring the accuracy, quality, integrity and timeliness of pharmaceutical product preparation and release.
  • Develop and maintain non-sterile compounding policies and procedures; conduct non-sterile risk assessments; deliver training and skills assessments; and implement quality assurance controls in alignment with NAPRA non-sterile guidelines.
  • Support Ontario College of Pharmacists Hospital Accreditation for non-sterile compounding.
  • Perform duties as a Pharmacy Technician in a computerized automated Unit Dose setting along with repackaging, intravenous admixing.
  • Deliver appropriate teaching to pharmacy students in collaboration with other Pharmacy Technicians.
