About The Position

Assists pharmacists in the drug distribution process. This role involves inputting patient and prescription data, maintaining pharmacy automation, accessing patient electronic records, communicating with healthcare teams, assisting and serving patients, managing drug inventory, billing and adjudicating claims, and preparing reports. The position also requires maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies, ensuring compliance with 340B program requirements, following departmental policies, and enhancing professional growth. The role may involve working at different SYH locations, assisting with medication package reconciliation, and providing pharmaceutical services within the legal scope.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician
  • High school or GED required
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician program
  • CA Board of Pharmacy Technician license
  • Superb organizational and analytical abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) preferred
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish or English/Arabic) preferred
  • Familiarity with Medi-Cal Program preferred.
  • Experience with Medical terminology and Pharmacy automation machines including blister packs, robotics and counting machines.

Responsibilities

  • Counts, packages, pre-packages, and labels medication for inspection by pharmacist and fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals
  • Inputs patient and prescription data into the pharmacy computer system to process prescriptions and maintains patient profiles
  • Maintains pharmacy automation machines including blister packs, robotics and counting machines
  • Accesses medication history within patient electronic records and communicates with providers and health care team through secure EHR systems
  • Assists and serves patients
  • Assists in the ordering, stocking, and maintenance of drug inventory
  • Bills and adjudicates prescription claims
  • Assists in the preparation of reports and written documentation, as required by the department, company, state and federal agencies
  • Ability to use Microsoft office to generate reports that will be presented and communicated within the organization
  • Ability to use different platforms to communicate and organize delivery services and/or mail orders
  • Assists pharmacists as directed
  • Maintains and submits orders to maintain an adequate inventory of forms, clerical and pharmaceutical supplies, paper and equipment
  • Maintains proper training and education with 340B program compliance requirements
  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops
  • Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed
  • Ability to work at different SYH locations as necessary
  • Assists in medication packages reconciliation and provides pharmaceutical services including but not limited to handling patient refill requests and prescription delivery packages at different day centers within the legal work scope as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
