Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care. The technician maintains an inventory of drugs and supplies, re-orders and stocks items, and ensures their immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, ensuring pharmacist product verification, and facilitating timely medication distribution. Accurate record-keeping, including charging and crediting, is essential. The technician responds to customer needs by answering calls, distributing messages, and triaging requests. They understand and implement time management and prioritization for safe patient care. This role also includes assisting with operational support, minor housekeeping, and department cleaning to maintain the work area. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are conducted. The technician maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities to stay current with trends and practices is expected, along with completing all required training and competency assessments. They may assist in orienting and training new personnel and serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance. Other duties may be assigned.
