Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products, and properly operate, troubleshoot, monitor, and clean departmental automation and equipment. This role ensures pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. Accurate records and patient profiles, including charging and crediting, are maintained. The technician responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. They understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care. Assistance is provided with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration, are conducted. Competency is maintained and departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines are followed to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments is expected. All required training and competency assessments are completed in a timely fashion, and educational in-services are attended as appropriate. Assistance is provided in the orientation and training of new personnel, and may serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service. Other duties as assigned or requested may be performed.
