About The Position

Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists with distributing and processing prescriptions and selling over-the-counter medications. The role includes entering prescription data into a computer, performing billing and file maintenance, receiving payments, and helping stock and store inventory. The technician interacts and communicates with the public and reports to pharmacists.

The position may also involve job-related duties beyond those specifically listed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.

Nice To Haves

• At least six months of retail pharmacy experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and prepackages medication for subsequent administration to patients under pharmacist supervision.
• Enters prescription information and processes prescriptions in the computer.
• Assists with orientation and training of new staff.
• Obtains personal and insurance information from new customers and enters it into the computer.
• Takes prescription refill orders over the phone from customers.
• Collects payments for prescription retail and over-the-counter sales.
• Straightens and inventories over-the-counter medications and sundry items.
• Maintains appropriate records of medication dispensed.
• Helps reprocess rejected prescriptions.
• Assists with prescription distribution and processing, billing, file maintenance, payment collection, and inventory stocking and storage.
