About The Position

Med Sync Pharmacy Technician - Marshall Pharmacy provides friendly customer service and assists the pharmacist in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services. The role involves performing all pharmacy dispensing functions with accuracy and efficiency, including data entry, pill counts, filling prescriptions, point-of-sale transactions, and handling third-party rejections. The technician will assist patients with financial support, follow all policies and procedures, answer telephones courteously, and accurately pull and count medications. Adherence to West Virginia Board of Pharmacy laws, maintenance of accurate patient records, and inventory management are key responsibilities. The role also includes assisting with prior authorizations, communicating system alerts to the pharmacist, maintaining sanitary and safe practices, and ensuring regular attendance. The technician must remain free from exclusion under OIG and SAMS Medicare/Medicaid lists and work with the clinical pharmacy department on specialty prescription needs. The position requires the ability to cope with mental and emotional stress and may involve additional duties as assigned, assisting with specialty pharmacy accrediting bodies, staff huddles, and meetings. Ensuring correct delivery of medications, working with the patient assistance technician on financial needs, and assisting with the quality improvement process are also part of the role. Staying up-to-date with training and licensing, syncing patient medication profiles, working with provider offices for refills, converting delivery patients to med sync, and potentially assisting with blister packing for med sync patients are expected. The technician must be familiar with running reports and reporting data and metrics to the pharmacy manager, and maintain proper records and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provides friendly customer service.
  • Assists pharmacist in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services.
  • Performs all pharmacy dispensing functions with accuracy and efficiency, including but not limited to data entry, pill counts, fill, POS, third party rejections.
  • Assist patients with getting financial support if needed.
  • Follows all policies and procedures, to ensure all patients are taken care of and all information is relayed appropriately.
  • Answers telephones quickly and with courtesy.
  • Pulls and counts medication from the shelves accurately and according to the label.
  • Follows all laws set forth by the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records, including allergies, updated insurance information, prescriptions, etc.
  • Assists in inventory management to meet patient and financial needs.
  • Assists with prior authorizations, including notifying the patient and provider and working for resolution.
  • Informs pharmacist of any alerts from the pharmacy system, including contraindications, interactions, and allergies.
  • Participates in maintaining sanitary and safe practices.
  • Maintains regular attendance and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Promptly reports any allegations of impropriety to the Human Resources department.
  • Remains free from exclusion under the OIG and SAMS Medicare/Medicaid lists.
  • Works with clinical pharmacy department and specialty staff on specialty prescription needs, when necessary.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Assists in all processes as required by the specialty pharmacy accrediting bodies.
  • Assists in any and all staff huddles and meetings.
