About The Position
The Pharmacy Technician I assists the Pharmacist with technical functions related to pharmacy practice. The role handles medication order processing, medication distribution, inventory ordering and management, and quality assurance to maintain medication integrity throughout the facility. The position is based at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Campus in Lafayette, Indiana, and is scheduled Monday through Friday during the day. Travel is never or rarely required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of sterile compounding experience.
- State Pharmacy Technician (PHT) certification/licensure from the State Licensing Board.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification required within one year of hire.
Nice To Haves
- One year of hospital pharmacy experience.
Responsibilities
- Compound, package, and accurately label standard oral and topical formulations in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Dispense medications according to organizational policies and procedures; deliver medications and ensure appropriate handling and storage.
- Maintain distribution documentation and records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Maintain drug and supply inventory in distribution areas, including proper medication storage, inventory, and security conditions.
- Remove unneeded or outdated drugs from stock and prepare them for return or disposal according to departmental guidelines.
- Prepare hazardous and non-hazardous sterile products using aseptic technique and safe hazardous-material handling practices; follow procedures to preserve product integrity and patient and worker safety.
- Document sterile product preparation in compliance with applicable standards.
- Prioritize urgent service requests and provide prompt response and follow-up.
- Respond to service requests received through the window, phone, intercom, fax, and printers, and retrieve requests from patient care areas.
- Use computer applications to access information and document task completion.
