About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician will maintain an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They will maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, and ensuring pharmacist product verification and timely distribution of medications. Accurate record-keeping and patient profile maintenance, including charging and crediting, are essential. The technician will respond to customer needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests. They will understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks, and assist with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, will be conducted. The role requires maintaining competency and following departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities to stay knowledgeable of current trends and practices, completing all required training and competency assessments, and attending educational in-services are expected. The technician will assist in the orientation and training of new personnel and may serve as a resource for less experienced staff. Other duties as assigned or requested may be performed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
  • Medium-Heavy physical requirements: 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly).
  • Lifting 75 lbs max.
  • Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs.
  • Occasional to frequent standing & walking.
  • Occasional sitting.
  • Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing).
  • Awareness of potential environmental exposures including blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, communicable diseases, electrical shock, hot/cold temperatures, latex, radiation, etc.
  • May require use of personal protective equipment, including respirators.
