The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient Pediatrics supports overnight pharmacy operations within the pediatric inpatient pharmacy at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, one of the health system's highest-volume inpatient pharmacy environments. Serving pediatric inpatient units across the hospital, this role helps ensure the safe, accurate, and timely distribution of medications for a high-acuity patient population. Responsibilities include delivering and restocking medications, managing automated dispensing cabinets (Pyxis), supporting carousel and medication distribution workflows, triaging phone calls and medication administration record (MAR) messages, assisting pharmacists with medication preparation, and maintaining medication safety and organization throughout the overnight shift. This role requires extensive walking throughout inpatient units and close collaboration with pharmacists and the interdisciplinary care team to support exceptional pediatric patient care. Upon successful completion of training and demonstrated competency, caregivers may have opportunities to expand into other pharmacy practice areas based on departmental needs and availability. A caregiver in this position will work a 7-on/7-off night shift schedule, working 8:30pm–7:00am (10.5-hour shifts). This full-time position follows a 70-hours-worked, 80-hours-paid pay structure. Weekend and holiday coverage are built into the scheduled rotation. This role is based at Main Campus with no float requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).
  • Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) within 18 months from the date of hire.
  • Must obtain Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy within 18 months from the date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
  • Six months of hospital experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
