The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient, 7 on / 7 off supports a high-volume inpatient pharmacy at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, located on the second floor between the OR and ICU. This role works closely with pharmacists while maintaining a high level of autonomy in daily operations. Responsibilities include medication picking and distribution, receiving narcotics, triaging requests, answering phones, supporting re-dispenses, and assisting with front-end pharmacy needs as required. Working within a busy 256-bed hospital environment, this role plays an important part in ensuring timely and accurate medication support across inpatient service lines. A caregiver in this role will work 2nd shift on an 7on/7off schedule. Hours are 11:30am - 10pm (5 days) and 10:30 to 10pm (2 days). Requirements include every other weekend and holidays on weeks scheduled. No on-call requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Florida Board of Pharmacy (FBOP).
  • A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with FBOP does not qualify for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Florida Board of Pharmacy within 18 months from the date of hire.
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
  • Six months hospital experience
  • Prior inpatient experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely preparation of medications which may include selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.
  • Assume responsibility for the full range of pharmacy technician functions typically distributed across multiple technicians and specialized roles during daytime hours, ensuring continuous pharmacy operations and medication availability.
  • Perform all distributive pharmacy technician duties with limited onsite support, including medication preparation and distribution, restocking and management of automated dispensing systems (e.g. carousel), inventory control, and sterile and non-sterile compounding.
  • Provide immediate response and troubleshooting for automation failures, system downtime, and facilities disruptions impacting pharmacy operations, and communicated effectively with the on-site pharmacist and on-call pharmacy leadership, IT, facilities, and other support services to ensure resolution and continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
  • Accurately and timely completion of assigned inventory audits such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Documents regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicate with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner.
  • Demonstrates emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships.
  • Attends and actively participates in team huddles and meetings.
  • Assist with pharmacy caregiver and student training.
  • Shares responsibility for accomplishment of the team’s tasks and goals.
  • Appropriately uses information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to meet competencies to work in all workflows and areas throughout inpatient needs (oncology, cardio, med access).
