About The Position

Logan Health Medical Center is looking for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join their Inpatient Hospital Pharmacy team. This role involves understanding and completing all aspects of medication distribution from the pharmacy to assigned areas, including inpatient and/or outpatient dispensing. Responsibilities include filling automated dispensing machines, filling patient drawers, delivering medications efficiently, and performing inventory management. The position also requires answering telephone inquiries, maintaining pharmacy inventory, and aiding in staff development and quality improvement projects. The role emphasizes maintaining a neat and orderly work environment and continuing education to stay current with pharmacy law and licensure. Additional duties for Senior and Specialist Pharmacy Technicians involve compounding pharmaceuticals, sterile compounding techniques, and potentially compounding chemotherapy products and participating in the "tech-check-tech" program.

Requirements

• Possess an active licensure with the Montana Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in good standing required.
• RQI First Responder within 7 days of hire/transfer or before independent patient care, whichever comes first, required.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
• Prior experience in Pharmacy Systems and Electronic Health Records preferred.
• Three years of Pharmacy Technician experience preferred (Senior Pharmacy Technician).
• Minimum of one (1) year experience as a hospital Pharmacy Technician with demonstrated competency in IV admixtures preferred (Senior Pharmacy Technician).
• Three (3) years’ experience as a hospital Pharmacy Technician at an outside facility or through our Pharmacy Tech and Senior Tech programs preferred (Pharmacy Technician Specialist).
• Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program preferred (Pharmacy Technician Specialist).
• Proficient in sundry duties to include non-sterile and/or sterile compounding or other advanced skill set preferred (Pharmacy Technician Specialist).

Responsibilities

• Understands and completes all aspects of medication distribution from the pharmacy to all areas assigned including but not limited to; inpatient and/or outpatient dispensing.
• Filling the automated dispensing machines and utilizing the bar code scanning.
• Filling patient drawers in all nursing units.
• Delivering medications in the most efficient manner to all assigned areas.
• Completes rounds according to current policy. This includes delivering and retrieving medications, debiting and crediting medications to patient specific accounts to ensure accurate billing.
• Promptly and efficiently answers telephone calls, responds to inquiries and routes appropriately as needed.
• Performs all tasks associated with maintaining the pharmacy inventory.
• Ordering, receiving, and shelving medications.
• Documents and communicates drug shortages.
• Monitors the pharmacy inventory for outdated medications, and disposes according to current policy.
• Exhibits a working knowledge of all pharmacy computer systems.
• Aids in staff development, orients new employees and students, participates in quality assessment, and improvement projects.
• Maintains a neat and orderly environment. This includes cleaning duties, medication disposal, and trash disposal.
• Actively continues education to keep abreast of Pharmacy law and to maintain current licensure.
• Assists in the coordination of work activities and training of Pharmacy Technicians (Senior Pharmacy Technician duties).
• Manufactures, prepares, compounds, packages and labels pharmaceuticals within a specialized program such as the IV additive service, non-sterile compounding, oncology medications and/or the investigational drug service (Senior and Specialist Pharmacy Technician duties).
• Actively compound IV medications using sterile, aseptic techniques according to current policies and federal regulations. Maintains the sterile environment in the clean room according to current policies and procedures (Senior and Specialist Pharmacy Technician duties).
• May compound chemotherapy products (Pharmacy Technician Specialist duties).
• May participate in the state approved “tech-check-tech” program (Pharmacy Technician Specialist duties).
